Safety is the number one concern when visiting Balaclava, and though the laws may vary between Jamaica and America, everyone will abide by American laws. This means that anyone under the age of 21 is prohibited from drinking, and everyone is prohibited from smoking marijuana - an accepted practice in Jamaica. Everyone should be accounted for by nightfall, and any travel after must consist of a group of three or more including at least one male. Because this is a church sponsored event, certain rules and regulations concerning minors must be strictly adhered to.

- Sundresses are fine for ladies to wear at mass.
- One-piece bathing suits or tankini style are acceptable for beach wear.
- For men, a collared shirt and khaki shorts or pants are preferred for church and more formal events.
- It is recommended that worksite clothing be old and something you won't mind throwing away by the end of the week.
- Shoes are recommended for the worksite and walking around the community.
